February is the month of love and here at Bloom we focus on self-love because we now that once one can find love for themselves, their loves for others will Bloom as well!
Here are 3 tips that you can use both in and out of your yoga practice to help you bring in some love for yourself this month:
1. Set your intentions but know your value.
Some of us aspire to eat healthier, find balance in our daily life, manage our quality time in more productive ways, and maybe even make lifestyle changes that will result in more energy, increased range of motion, and physical changes like strength building.
Acknowledge your desire to work towards greater harmony through your set intentions, but realize your current state as beautiful, capable, and enough. Some days it's difficult to accept your body but it's important to keep trying.
2. Know modifications that work for your body and know that you're always allowed to take them.
There is a common misconception about yoga that causes people to feel that they need to be in a certain shape or be flexible to "do" yoga, this couldn't be farther from the truth.
Every individual's body is unique and caters to one's needs in its own way, the beauty of yoga is that although it is taught in a group it is still and individual practice and in no way a form of competition. The growing understanding between yogis is that everyone is different and it is beautiful. So there will be times that you may need and want to take a different variation, or even change a pose, in order to make it accessible, beneficial, and enjoyable. When this happens—do it.
3. Express gratitude through positive self talk.
Turn the edges of your yoga mat into a safe zone filled with positive self-talk, and constant reminders of the power of your breath, body, and self. Use moments of physical difficulty as transitions into quiet declarations of the strength and capabilities of your body.
Before class starts, sit on your mat and take a breather. Take a 1-2 min scan your body and litter positive affirmation throughout each section of your being. And always, finish your yoga practice with a moment of self-congratulations and a promise to continue to walk the path of self-love.
