4 Yoga Poses to Help You Detox

Spring cleaning doesn't just have to be getting rid of the junk in your garage, this is a perfect time of year to start thinking about detoxing and don't worry...no need to deprive yourself with a strict diet or go on a juice cleanse. Feel lighter and happier this season by simply rolling out your mat and the yoga poses below will stimulate your circulatory, digestive, and lymphatic systems, helping you rid your body of waste and toxins! Try these poses in class or at home:

Yoga Poses to Help You Detoxify:

Wide Legged Forward Fold-

This pose encourages circulation of blood throughout the body by reversing the pull of gravity. The folding motion squeezes the belly which also moves things along for digestion.
Modification: From a Wide-Legged Forward Bend, take left hand to right ankle or shin, reach right hand toward the ceiling, and lean back, opening your heart to the side of your mat. 

Revolved Chair Pose-
This deep twist aides in digestion as you feel the gentle pressure on your kidneys, liver, and spleen that stimulates the removal of toxins, while toning your abdominal wall.

Plow Pose-
Strengthens and stretches the back muscles, aligning the spine and improving your posture, stimulating the abdominal organs, ovaries, bladder, and kidney, and relieving digestive issues. It also increases metabolism and tones the abdominal wall.

Supine Twist-
One of the most common yoga postures you'll see in a cool down in class, this posture will not only leave you feeling energized and focused, but will also give you mental clarity, relieve stress and deep tension, and detoxify your entire system by primarily massaging your internal organs, encouraging the elimination of toxins.
 
You can probably tell that most of these poses involve a twist in your spine which are commonly known to aid digestion. This means they are great for creating movement in and around our organs. So in terms of helping our food being moved along.. twists are great!
